“This announcement is not a judgment on the merits of the pipeline, but the arbitrary nature of a deadline that prevented the State Department from gathering the information necessary to approve the project and protect the American people,” Obama said. “I’m disappointed that Republicans in Congress forced this decision, but it does not change my administration’s commitment to American-made energy that creates jobs and reduces our dependence on oil.“

Notice how Obama didn’t say FOREIGN oil, he just said oil. Therefore, he has no commitment to American oil, just the alternatives that are unreliable and extremely expensive. Not to mention the increased gap between developing and undeveloped countries, or the increased difficulty for American manufacturers, or higher energy prices…

On the topic of alternative energy for cars, the Obama administration also killed the Bush-impelled hydrogen fuel cell project at General Motors, something that actually had promise. Good ole politics, eh?
