A lot of conservatives never quite understand why African-Americans switched parties in the first place.
It was primarily under the tenure of the Great Liberal Dictator Franklin D. Roosevelt that many African-Americans switched from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party. Many made the move because some of FDR’s New Deal programs started giving them welfare and a hand up (the other New Deal programs excluded blacks or severely restricted black access to these programs). Finally, a savior who could help the blacks finally showed up in Washington, DC!
But were they really saved?
If you actually take a probe into the psyche of FDR (someone who, by the way, cheated on his wife, then stopped when she found out, and then resumed cheating again. Scum.), you might discover that it wasn’t really a friendliness towards or acceptance of blacks that led him to “help out their community” or have them “rise up” out of their positions in society.
It was a way to control them.
Think about it.
Putting massive numbers of blacks on welfare would do two things:
- Encourage them to become loyal to the party by…
- Ensuring that they never get off welfare – which only the Democrats would agree to provide – and never rise up by using the entrepreneurial spirit of our country.
It was indoctrination at its finest level, my friends. Roosevelt managed to squash the entire dreams of the black community for decades – and some would argue that they’re still relatively squashed even today. By putting them on welfare, FDR ensured that they would never vote Republican again – who would want to work when you could just get free or cheap housing, care, and money? The welfare movement for blacks was designed to keep them from never trying to rise up in society. It was a great way to continue the pro-KKK, Jim-Crow-enacting, white-supremacist Democratic Party. Alfonzo Rachel does a great job pointing this out. It was never to help the blacks – it was to harm them psychologically, socially, and economically. And it’s worked, unfortunately.

On an unrelated note, the gay marriage movement that scored a victory in Maryland may actually help the right wing. Blacks are usually socially conservative when it comes to gay marriage – this may be the first step to fracturing the Democratic Party even further.
